In the last two decades especially after 1986 when the management of this Shrine was entrusted to an autonomous Board- the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, the vaishnodevi yatra has experienced a steady rise. This is because the Board, which is constantly keeping the convenience of the Yatris in mind, has carried out massive developmental and procedural improvements for the smooth conduct of yatra. The emphasis of the Board has always been on pumping-back its incomes for further improvement of facilities for the yatris as also to fulfil the other social commitments to help the weaker sections of the society. As of date the Shrine Board has created a pedestrian track, electrification of the area, accommodation, toilets, blankets stores, cloak-rooms. To prevent stampede during rush hours the board has developed a system of Yatra Registration.
Donation is the edifice on which whole financial strength of the Shrine Board rests. The donations offered are utilized for the developmental activities and upkeep of high level of facilities for the pilgrimage. Donations made to the Shrine Board are exempted from income tax under section 80-G of the Indian Income Tax Act.
