Manakula Vinayagar Temple dedicated to Lord Ganesha is one of the famous ancient temple is in Puducherry,in Tamil Nadu. The temple is 165 Km South of Chennai . The main deity "Sri Manakula Vinayagar" (Pranavamurthy) of this temple is facing east and the temple is bordered on east by Manakula Vinayagar Koil Street. the sanctum is enshrined with a grand idol of Vinayaka called Vellakkaran Pillai.
This temple is called as Manakula Vinyagar, as that time there was pond on the western side of this temple and due to proximity of Sea, pond was full of sand, hence it was called as "Manakulam".
According to the myth, a Frenchman with several frantic attempts tried to remove the Ganesha idol from the temple. But each time the idol was removes, it reappeared on its own. Persuaded with the power of the idol, the Frenchman converted as an ardent devotee of the lord. The timings of the temple are Morning: 5:45 AM to 12:30 PM and Evening: 4:00 PM to 9:30 PM.
