Ahmedabad city has been named after Sultan Ahmed Shah who founded the city in 1411. On his way home after one of his excursions Sultan Ahmed Shah was taken up by the sheer scenic beauty and climatic conditions of the township of Ashawal. It was then that he decided to make this town his captial and built his new capital with a twelve gate fort here and christened it as "Ahmedabad". The fort with its gates have withstood the ravages of time and man and but for a few damages stands in all ita resplendent glory even today.
