Overview

Anegudde village is located at a distance of 9 km south of Kundapura, in Udupi District in Karnataka. Anegudde is also popularly called as Kumbashi. The name Kumbhashi is said to be derived from demon Kumbhasura.

Anegudde is one of the seven 'Mukti Sthalas' of Karnataka (Parashurama kshetra). The temple at Anegudde is dedicated to Lord Vinayaka (Ganesh). Anegudde is the combination of two words - 'Aane' meaning 'Elephant' and 'Gudde', which stands for 'hillock' as it is the abode of the elephant-headed god, Lord Vinayaka.

Anegudde is one of the popular Vinayaka temples in Udupi district which attracts large number of pilgrims. Lord Ganapathi at Anegudde is also called as 'Siddhi Vinakaya' and 'Sarva Siddhi Pradaayaka', the donor of all boons.

It is believed that the statue of Lord Ganapathi is growing every year, and certainly the reputation also wide spreading.

Ganesh Chaturthi is the main festival celebrated at Anegudde temple and Sankashta Chaturthi is also celebrated with great devotion. Devotees frequently perform Tulabharam in this temple.
